The San Jose Sharks announced today that they will open their home schedule on October 9 against the Anaheim Ducks, in addition to detailing Eastern Conference opponents.
The NHL reworked its schedule this summer to allow for each team to play every other team in the NHL once, while entertaining three teams from the other conference in a home-and-home series. The Sharks will play the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, and Tampa Bay Lightning in the home-and-home series.
There’s no complaining with these announcements. Opening the home season with the Anaheim Ducks, a division foe, is a no-brainer. And who wouldn’t want to see Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh) and Dan Boyle’s former team (Tampa Bay) at the Tank?
The rest of the 2008-09 regular season schedule will be released tomorrow.
