Into Thin Air is Jon Krakauer’s personal account of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, in which 8 climbers were killed and other severely injured by a massive storm atop the mountain. He was a member of guide Rob Hall’s expedition, although several other expeditions were climbing the mountain at the time, including an IMAX expedition crew who were filming the IMAX movie Everest.
This book was well told from Jon’s point of view. He keeps your attention with every detail of the mistakes that were made at the top of the mountain that no doubt could have led to lives being saved. He really put how much skill it takes to climb Everest into perspective. I’d recommend this book to anyone who wants

This book was one of the best books I’ve read. If you don’t think you’re all that interested in mountain climbing or Everest you will be after this book! Krakauer has recounted this terrifying climb in great detail and really helps you appreciate Mother Nature’s force. Definitely give it a chance!
